My Role. I am not in any way employed by or associated with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). As a licensed psychologist, I am authorized to perform TCLEOSE L-3 determinations. I have provided L-3 evaluations for more than 20 years including evaluations for the Texas DPS, and various police and sheriff's departments in Texas.

The Process. You will be asked to read and sign a consent form, complete a two page questionnaire regarding your background and mental status, undergo a clinical interview, and complete the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). The PAI is a standardized test of personality that will be computer scored on site using a module specific to law enforcement, corrections, and public safety selection. As is the case with all psychological testing, feedback to you of the results is an integral part of the process.

Knowing What to Expect. The length of the certification process outlined above is difficult to predict accurately, but will normally not exceed a 1-2 hour time frame. If you are being evaluated along with a number of other candidates, the process may take slightly longer. You will be able to work at your own pace and take breaks as needed. Before you leave, you will receive the results of your bid for certification and your L-3 Declaration will be signed if all is in order.

Confidentiality. Because of the nature and purpose of the evaluation, you should be informed of the limited confidential nature of results. A consent form is required before the evaluation can begin. To view this consent form, please click here.
